Group Policy (GPO)
Lookeen Desktop can be installed, licensed and configured consistently without any action from employees. Group Policy decides what may be indexed and searched.
What you control centrally
Licence
Licence key and edition are distributed with the policy – no typing at the workplace.
Indexing
Which folders, drives, Outlook mailboxes and file types are indexed, and when.
Exchange and public folders
Who may search the Exchange server, public folders or network resources with Lookeen.
Shared index
Provide central indexes, for example of public folders, to whole groups.
Features
Enable or lock advanced features such as AI, tags or OCR.
Locked settings
Defaults users can’t change – for consistent workplaces and less support effort.
How the rollout works
- 1. Get the installer as MSI or ZIP from the download page.
- 2. Define settings as registry values, as a REG file or through Group Policy preferences.
- 3. Create a Group Policy object and link it to the organisational units you want.
- 4. At the next sign-in, Lookeen is installed, licensed and started with your settings.
Frequently asked questions
Where does Lookeen store its settings?
In the settings file in the user’s local application data folder. Group Policy overrides these values through the registry.
Is there documentation of the policies?
Yes, the Group Policy manual describes every value. Ask us for it or find it under support.
Do I need Lookeen Server for many workplaces?
Not necessarily. Lookeen Desktop can be rolled out via GPO to any number of workplaces. Lookeen Server pays off when shared storage should be indexed centrally.
